Precision Machining in Power Tool Manufacturing
Precision CNC machined components are the hidden quality determinant in power tools. The armature shaft in a miter saw motor, the gear teeth in a gearbox, the bearing seat in a spindle assembly — these are all machined parts whose dimensional accuracy determines tool performance, noise level, and service life. Most power tool buyers never see these components, but they explain the quality difference between tools that last years and tools that fail in months.
Our machining department at Ningbo processes components for our own power tool production line and accepts third-party OEM orders. We operate a CNC machining center with turning, milling, drilling, tapping, and gear cutting capabilities under IATF 16949 quality management — automotive-grade precision applied to power tool components.
Our Machining Capabilities
| Process | Typical Tolerance | Typical Application |
|---|---|---|
| CNC turning | ±0.01mm | Shafts, spindles, rotor cores |
| CNC milling | ±0.02mm | Housings, brackets, plates |
| Gear cutting (hobbing) | DIN 7–9 quality | Helical/spur gears, sprockets |
| Grinding | ±0.005mm | Precision bearing seats, journals |
| Die casting + machining | ±0.05mm | Gearbox housings, motor endcaps |
Materials We Machine
Our machining department processes the primary materials used in power tool and automotive components:
- Steel: 45# carbon steel, 40Cr alloy steel, 20CrMnTi gear steel — for shafts, gears, spindles
- Aluminum: ADC12 die cast, 6061-T6, 7075 — for housings and structural parts
- Stainless steel: 303, 304 — for fasteners and corrosion-exposed components
- Copper alloys: Brass C360 — for commutator rings and electrical contacts
Quality System: IATF 16949
Our machining operations are governed by IATF 16949, the international automotive quality management standard. For power tool applications, this means control plans, process FMEAs, SPC monitoring on critical dimensions, and full production traceability. Every batch of components is accompanied by a dimensional inspection report covering all critical dimensions.
We hold both ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 — a relatively rare combination in the Chinese power tool industry. This dual certification is particularly valuable for buyers sourcing components for regulated markets (EU machinery, US UL) or automotive applications where quality system documentation is required by the Tier 1 supply chain.
Vertical Integration Advantage
For power tool OEM buyers, the practical advantage of our in-house machining is supply chain consolidation. Instead of sourcing tool housing (die casting supplier), motor shaft (machining supplier), gear set (gear manufacturer), and final assembly (a fourth supplier), you deal with one manufacturer who controls all four processes.
This eliminates the inter-supplier finger-pointing that causes quality issues to go unresolved, reduces your total logistics cost, and gives you a single quality contact for the complete product.

Frequently Asked Questions
What file formats do you accept for machining quotes?
PDF (2D drawing with GD&T) plus STEP or IGES (3D model) is preferred. DXF is accepted for 2D profile work. For parts with complex form tolerances, a 3D model is required for accurate quoting.
Can you handle heat treatment and surface coating in-house?
Heat treatment (carburizing, induction hardening) and surface coatings (zinc phosphate, electroless nickel, black oxide) are outsourced to qualified partners in our local supply chain, inspected by our quality team before delivery. All partner processes are covered by our ISO 9001 scope.
What is your standard lead time for machined parts?
First article samples: 7–14 days for standard materials and geometry. Production lead time for repeat orders: 15–25 days depending on volume and process complexity.
